August 30, 2009 MS 150 Update

Well...I almost made it to Perry today!! But, hwy 86 really killed me...the hills were a "little" hard. However, I should feel good about riding 35 miles since I haven't ridden for two weeks due to the morning rains, school starting, and my allergies. Great excuses, I mean, reasons, right?? I think that's one reason the ride was tough...I was surprised how quickly my endurance had dropped as a result of the two week layoff.

Right at the start of my ride I woke up a doe and her baby!! I don't know who was more startled-me or them! As I rode west on hwy 51, I was paying so much attention to how nice the roadsides looked due to the county mowing crew (getting ready for OSU vs Georgia on Sat!), and enjoying the smell of freshly-mowed grass, that I realized I wasn't peddling as fast I should.

I headed north on hwy 86, trying to reach Perry. It was such a beautiful ride...and fun, since I hadn't taken this route before. I loved the lake (Carl Blackwell??) and the ponds I saw...people who have a view of the water are very lucky!!

Stay tuned...thanks so much for your support. I have raised my goal twice now and am shooting for $1000 by Sept. 21. If you haven't donated yet, and would like to, please click on the MS link on the right side of my blog. I appreciate your support and hope we're able to find a cure for this horrid disease.

I did it!! Today I rode 30 miles which is my house to I-35 and back. Woo-hoo! The trip out was amazing...quiet...I love to watch the cattle...even saw a doe with her twins sitting next to Hwy 51! The ride back wasn't as much fun. My rear tire went flat but I kept on riding because I didn't have a spare with me (I will from now on) and then when I got to "my road" I decided to walk my bike because it was so hard to peddle with the flat tire. So...1.5 miles later I made it home. The bike shop is now putting new tires on my bike...and a new seat...so I'll be ready to go again tomorrow.

The best part: I bought purple socks and gloves to match my helmet. :) This is really fun...and I can tell I'm getting in shape because the ride out was the easiest it's been all summer.

Thanks for reading...and your support!

August 2, 2009 Training Update

I'm up to 25 miles! I really thought I'd hit 30 by today but I didn't ride as much due to the morning rainstorms. I sure hope it's not raining the weekend of the MS 150...not my idea of fun. But, the cause is great so...

I'm learning more about riding...taking breaks every 10 or so miles...eat protein along the way...stay hydrated. I'm also loving the chance to be by myself and think...a real rarity these days!

My goal is to ride 5 days this week (M, W, F, S, S)...and hit the magic 30 miles! Stay tuned.
